Yesterdays meeting consisted of the usual agenda discussing different topics including classes, contests, member highlights and such. But it was the big day to exchange charms with our friends. It was great to receive each members hand made piece. A little something to look at and remember the thoughtfulness of my friends and the passion we share.
The last several meetings we have been holding “Group Sharing”. Members have volunteered to bring their knowledge of different mediums to the group and share their experience with the medium. Yesterday Julia Sweeney shared her knowledge of polymer clay. Julia brought many examples of her work with so many different techniques. We had time for a little hands on, rolling out different colors of clay, making canes and experimenting.
It was great to see Julia light up while she shared. And the members have truly enjoyed the sharing experience. Not only do we learn about different mediums…we learn a little more about our friends.
It was a great day and a great meeting. Thanks to Julia for sharing her polymer clay knowledge. I was fascinated by the intriguing designs everyone was creating.
ReplyDeleteSeeing everyone's charms was quite a treat and receiving one of each an even bigger treat. Thanks so much to Beth for sharing the idea and to Diane for making it happen.
I recommend this type of exchange for any creative group. Many members bring in special pieces to the meetings to show what they have made. With an exchange of items, we truly get to share the work from other artists. Now we all own a truly, one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry from friends we love. It lets us take our friends with us wherever we may go.
Thanks to all who participated. I will always treasure my "charmed" bracelet.
Even though I'm not an "official" member of your group, I have taken a class with Diane and love keeping up with you all. Thx, Diane, for creating this blog!
